Website Owners Change is Coming

By way of a heads up to our Business Customers, and if you haven't heard already, On February 26th Google announced that they will be making changes to their Search Algorithms starting on April 21, 2015 that expand the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal.

In Google's own words:

"This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results"

You can read the full the full Official Announcement from Google here.

With Smartphone and Tablet use for search continuing on a steady upward trajectory, these changes have been on the horizon for some time.

What do the changes mean?

Effectively the changes mean more relevant search results from mobile devices with search-engine results weighted to favor mobile-friendly sites with rich content.  Essentially this means that if you have an older style website that is not "mobile-friendly", by the time the changes come into effect, you could take a significant hit in terms of your webpage ranking and position in Search Engine results.

If your Search Engine ranking drops off it equates to lower click-through rates, and ultimately reduced business, so it is important to take steps to address this.

How do I know if my website is mobile-friendly?

Google has provided a free tool that lets business owners test their website for mobile friendliness.  It is a quick process and we would encourage you to make use of it to determine if you're at risk.
